Lake Sherwood to CR 14

Parking

  1. North end of section: From I-64 in West Virginia Exit 181, take US 60 west to WV 92, turn right and go 15 miles to CR 14 in Neola, turn right and go 4.1 miles to CR 14/1, turn left and go 6.4 miles.  Find Upper Meadow Trailhead on left, while a Lake Sherwood road goes to the right. 
  2. South end of section: From I-64 in West Virginia Exit 181, take US 60 west to WV 92, turn right and go 15 miles to CR 14, turn right and go 2.8 miles, parking on right at Laurel Run Road. 

Shuttle

North to south: Go back out CR 14/1 6.4 miles to CR14, turn right and go 1.3 miles. 
South to north: Continue on CR 14 for 1.3 miles to CR 14/1, turn left and go 6.4 miles.

Trail Description, North to South

0.0 Trailhead of Upper Meadow Trail on CR 14/1 by Lake Sherwood, elev. 2695’.  Great Eastern Trail follows Upper Meadow Trail (northwest) uphill. 
1.2 Upper Meadow Trail intersects Allegheny Trail on crest of Meadow Creek Mountain, elev. 2900’.  GET turns left onto Allegheny Trail, south.  High water route rejoins here. 
2.5 Reach summit on ridge, elev. 3250’. 
3.0 Cross Rider Trail, then Dilley Run (elev. 2790’). 
4.7 Intersection with Meadow Creek Mountain Trail (elev. 3150’), which forks to left (1.3 miles to CR 14/1 4.5 miles below Lake Sherwood).  Continue ahead on Allegheny Trail. 
8.5 Trail reaches southernmost summit of Meadow Creek Mountain (elev. 3120’ on trail).  Trail turns left to descend to Meadow Creek. 
10.3 Trail emerges on paved CR 14.  Follow CR 14 to left. 
10.4 Laurel Run Road to right, continue on CR 14. 
10.5 Parking on right for Allegheny Trail.  End of section.  GET continues on Allegheny Trail south into section 7We. 

Trail Description, South to North

0.0 South end of section, parking by CR 14 (Elev. 2212’).  Great Eastern Trail follows Allegheny Trail, which goes west along CR 14. 
0.2 Trail goes to right, starting climb up Meadow Creek Mountain. 
2.0 Trail reaches southernmost summit of Meadow Creek Mountain (elev. 3120’ on trail).  Trail turns right and follows ridge top. 
5.8 Intersection with Meadow Creek Mountain Trail, coming in from right (to right it is 1.3 miles to CR 14 4.5 miles below Lake Sherwood).  Continue ahead. 
7.5 After descending from knob, reach and cross Dilley Run (elev. 2790’) and Rider Trail. 
8.0 Reach summit on ridge, elev. 3250’. 
9.3 Intersection with Upper Meadow Trail (elev. 2900’), to right.  Allegheny Trail continues ahead.  GET follows Upper Meadow Trail, to right.  High water route continues 1.1 miles on the Allegheny Trail, then follows Meadow Creek Mountain Trail right another 2.8 miles.  This bypasses Lake Sherwood. 
10.5 Upper Meadow Trail ends on CR 14/1 by Lake Sherwood.  End of section 7d.  GET continues to left on CR 14/1 in section 7Wc.
