Parking
1. North end of section. Go 23.5 miles west of I-81 Exit 257 on VA 259 into West Virginia, turn right on Hunkerson Gap Road, go 1.9 mile. Limited parking on left at Snyder Trail (look for large blue blaze on tree). 2. Commuter Parking off VA 826 beside intersection with VA 259, 19.7 miles west of I-81 Exit 257.

Trail Description, North to South
Miles Data 0.0 Hunkerson Gap, west end of Snyder Trail along Hunkerson Gap Road. Follow gravel road downhill among tall Hemlock trees in hollow. 0.9 Road starts to pass near houses and more open areas. 1.9 Arrive at WV 259. Turn left (south). 3.3 Reach Virginia state line. Caution—VA 259 has narrower shoulders and traffic may be fast. 3.6 First bridge over Capon Run. 3.9 Entrance to Highland Retreat, a Mennonite Church camp. 4.3 Entrance to upper part of Highland Retreat camp. 4.7 Green Valley General Store and Restaurant on left. 5.7 Intersection of VA 259 and VA 820. End of this subsection. Follow VA 820 toward Bergton.

Miles Data 0.0 Intersection of VA 259 and VA 820. Take VA 259 west (actually north). Caution—VA 259 has narrow shoulders and traffic may be fast. 1.0 Green Valley General Store and Restaurant on right. 1.4 Entrance to upper part of Highland Retreat, a Mennonite Church camp, on right. 1.8 Entrance to lower part of Highland Retreat on right. 2.1 Bridge over Capon Run. 2.4 Reach state line, enter West Virginia. 3.8 Intersection with Hunkerson Gap Road on right. Take Hunkerson Gap Road, a gravel road. Occasional houses for first mile. 5.7 As gravel road becomes rougher, find large blue blaze on tree, indicating blue-blazed Snyder Trail (no sign). End of this subsection. Cross creek and continue on Snyder Trail.
